- **Stalos:** the quietest and the most local-adjacent — old Stalos village sits uphill with the better kitchens and the fairer bills. For couples and light sleepers.
- **Agia Marina:** the balanced middle, where most families end up and are right to: good sand, full services, the nightlife a bus stop away rather than under the window.
- **Platanias:** the engine room — shops, bars and actual clubs. For groups who want the evening on foot, and for nobody who wants to sleep before two in August.

## Getting around without a car

City buses run constantly along the strip and reach Chania's old town in 15–25 minutes, which is the thing that lifts this corridor above most Greek resort ribbons: a world-class old town for an evening, no parking, no driving. The airport sits east of the city on the Akrotiri peninsula while the strip lies west of it, so every transfer crosses Chania — allow noticeably longer than the city's own 30-minute airport bus, and agree a taxi fare before you move. For the old town itself, go by bus and eat one street back from the harbour; for the west's big days you will want a car for those days only.

## A day on the sand

Mornings are calm and the water is glass; by early afternoon the meltemi puts chop on the surface, softened on some days by the islet of Agioi Theodoroi offshore. Organised sets run roughly €8–15 and there are lifeguards in season on the Blue-Flag stretches. The sensible shape is beach until one, the long lunch uphill in old Stalos or one street back, the bus into Chania as the light turns.
