Field-checked guides · Crete, Greece

Crete, without the brochure.

Practical guides to visiting Crete, written by someone who lives here — not assembled by a content farm that's never smelled the meltemi. If a place is mediocre, I say so.

  • Every guide carries the date it was last checked on the ground.
  • Real prices, real logistics, real downsides — then a straight verdict.
  • Nobody pays to be featured. Personal connections are disclosed.

Why this exists

Most Crete guides are written from another country

The internet is drowning in Crete content stitched together from other Crete content. The prices are stale, the "hidden gems" have queues, and nobody tells you which resort road is loud at midnight — because nobody writing has ever stood on it.

I live in Heraklion and spend my working life in Cretan hospitality. This site publishes fewer guides, checked properly, dated visibly, and corrected when reality moves. More about how it works, and the disclosure policy.

For hotel owners

Run a small hotel on this coast?

Featured placements here are editorial and can't be bought. But if you run a small property and your website, booking flow or online reviews aren't doing you justice, that's a different conversation — and one I'm well placed to help with.
